Longhorn Legal Worries

A PROJECT, codenamed Longhorn, which worked with one of the early releases of Vista, has been shut down by order of the Vole.

According to the project site here, Microsoft sent the developers a ‘cease and desist’ letter.

The project's founder "JoeJoe" says on the site that it deeply saddened him that, although Microsoft has known about this project for many months the firm "only issued us with this notice a few days after we started to distribute the iso via torrents and ftp server".

The project was run by Windows enthusiasts who wanted to pick up where Microsoft had left off with Longhorn's development in October 2006.

The Vole switched development plans on the project midway through and gutted it of a lot of interesting stuff.

The Longhorn Reloaded project began with a build called Windows 6.0.4074. Microsoft released it at its Windows Hardware Engineering Conference in 2004 before the major development change.

However Microsoft never officially abandoned the Longhorn client, and it was fairly likely that the Longhorn Reloaded project would get in hot water with Volish briefs.
